Apple's latest

This would have been one time I would have gladly lost the Apple debate with you. We've always argued every time Apple comes out with their new products, and somehow I have always stuck to deify them, but this time even I have given up hope.

It was so bad, that they literally just changed numbers. Apple Watch 4 moved to Watch 5 with literally no other feature apart from 'always on'. It was actually so cool that the watch turns on when you look at it, and Apple is doing exactly the opposite of removing what they are known to be cool for. And even they know they are so bad that they de-listed Watch 4 so as to make the Watch 5 relevant. Now you go directly from 3 to 5.

Same for the iPhone. No more X. You directly have to get the 11.

Trevor Noah joked about it best. Kids will totally mess up counting numbers given the way Apple is changing nomenclature and number hierarchy.

Anyway, one of our colleagues summarized it best, and I'm sure you would have loved to read this, and then totally unleash yourself on me :)

Apple TV+: Launching on November 1st in over 100 markets, Apple TV+ will cost $4.99 a month for a family membership. Apple will be giving anyone who buys any new hardware this year a free year’s subscription to the service.

Apple Arcade: Apple used this week’s event to confirm launch dates and pricing of its cross-platform gaming service. Designed to go head to head with Google Stadia, Apple Arcade will launch on September 19th for $4.99 per month and launch with over 100 titles.

iPhone: Apple announced the launch of its iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro (including the iPhone 11 Pro Max). Apple didn’t include 5G, other features that were expected but didn’t appear included two-way wireless charging, USB-C port, Apple Pencil support and a proprietary Apple tracking device similar to Tile.

Apple also announced the A13 bionic processor, which further pushes processing power. Battery life has been improved by efficiency enhancements in the A13 processor.

Camera system upgrades appear to be Apple’s big bet this year. A 2-lens system on the 11 and 3-lens system on the Pro models will deliver a greater range of options and much machine learning photo wizardry – including an enhanced night mode, designed to take on Samsung and Google phones.

Other Hardware: Much like the iPhone updates, the new iPad and Watch felt like iterations rather than wholly new devices. A slightly larger screen and the inclusion of Apple smart connector for the iPad and an always-on display (without negative battery implications), new titanium and expensive ceramic case material and a compass for Apple Watch 5.
